Mykonos island

Mykonos island

Overview

This mixture of various age range, skills and life styles in our clients that regularly return on vacation to Mykonos every year never ceases to amaze us. Possibly even we, after 49 years in the industry ought to know better! The truth is, quality will invariably attract a good slice from the cake and Mykonos hasn't supported small portions! This may however imply that costs are generally a great deal greater than you are on other islands. You can easily understand why the area is really well-liked by the standard conscious. Base yourself in Mykonos Town and you'll end up in possibly the best looking Cycladic settlement within the Aegean. Narrow, spotlessly clean, whitewashed alleyways (another ancient trick to confuse the attacking pirates) are the place to find opulent jewelry shops, plush restaurants, great tavernas and coffee shops, bookstores along with a varied selection of very exuberant, sophisticated clubs and bars that rarely close before beginning. All pathways lead lower towards the harbour which is equally as eye-catching because the interior, particularly the 100 metres stretch referred to as 'Little Venice' in which the join between ocean and structures is tough to differentiate. The harbour may be the springboard for several quite interesting activities to neighbouring islands including Delos, Tinos, Naxos, Syros and Paros. Ancient Delos is essential, with ruins dating back the seventh century BC. The 2 other major factors which have led to Mykonos' recognition would be the superb, sandy beaches (Ornos, Platy Gialos and Agios Ioannis are simply three of the numerous to select from) and also the standard of accommodation, many of which nowadays is either 'A' grade or luxurious hotels. That's it. An upmarket, lively island with great beaches, great activities and great accommodation for deep(ish) pockets.

Milos island

Milos island

Overview

Known in your area because the island of 100 beaches, this 161 square kms of multi-hued, volcanic rock certainly understands how to spoil committed beachcombers. On the 14 evening holiday, it is extremely achievable to go to another beach every day, many occur quite astounding locations with dramatic rock formations including caves and archways as backdrop. A few of the more spectacular stretches of sand are only able to be utilized in the ocean. We'd suggest booking a ticket on among the round-the-island cruise ships that make sure of permitting time for you to go swimming and relax during these same places. We guarantee you'll be amazed!

But Milos is not only beaches and spectacular seaside scenery. The main harbour of Adamas has turned into a favourite destination using the Athenian cognoscenti and that we actually are quite amazed and somewhat disappointed that foreign travellers do not know this jewel. Two bays flank the meandering waterfront lined with coffee shops, bookstores, tavernas and an array of shops. A pre-dinner stroll through the quayside discloses luxurious cruiser motorcycles bobbing up and lower around the gentle swell. You can easily travel round the island. An extensive bus network connects Adamas using the primary tourist beaches for example Paleochori and Provatas although also connecting other towns in nearby, hilltop Plaka and seaside Pollonia that is even further away within the north. Each day in Plaka offers breathtaking sights, the chance to go to the historical and folklore museums and also to eat perfectly inside a classy taverna. Pollonia's quaint little harbour lies next to an excellent tree-fringed, sandy bay. A number of local shops, excellent overnight accommodation and top class tavernas would be the mainstay of the rising resort area.

It's possible to go to the neighboring island of Kimolos during the day from Pollonia because the local ferry takes only half an hour to help make the short crossing.

Things You Can Do

Typically the most popular outings undeniably would be the activities by boat round the shoreline of Milos. The greater adventurous will attempt a complete day ocean kayaking (no training necessary). Ocean caves, natural archways and passages, rock gardens, huge coves, secluded coves, deserted beaches and small islets are around the itinerary but still you will see time for you to go swimming, snorkel and have a picnic.

A excursion to Kimolos is definitely arranged in line with the short ferry hop from Pollonia.

Kimolos island

Kimolos island

Overview

Since our instigation in 1963, we've lost count the amount of occasions we've been the very first British travel company to provide holidays to particular destination in A holiday in greece. Although many go onto sell their soul towards the store bought, there's hardly any possibility of this ever happening on Kimolos. First of all, the only real really practical method for you to get there's by utilizing neighbouring Pollonia on Milos like a walking stone as well as then, the ferry has space for just about 70 people, docking in the only port, Psathi. Basically, a sandy beach, three tavernas along with a coffee shop are there's to Psathi, an ideal spot to relax. It takes approximately twenty minutes just to walk, a treadmill can travel around the local small-bus, as much as the relatively large hilltop capital of scotland- Chora. Here, local shops including a great bakery (request for 'pitta ladenia' that is cake full of sun-dried tomato, onion, dill and capers) can offer for those self-catering needs a treadmill can eat within the local hostelries before going to the gorgeous cathedral of Theotokos Odigitria. Here, a 15th century icon restored from the shipwreck in addition to many 17th century symbols could be seen in ornate surroundings. The medieval Venetian fort which the 'Kastro' or inner fort still consists of houses that bear jackets of arms and created lintels isn't not even close to the cathedral out of the box the Folk History Museum.

The hamlet of Alyki takes about 40 minutes just to walk from Chora and you will find numerous deserted beaches dotted round the island which vary in quality from coarse sand to pebbles. Alyki may be the nearest but just a little further west and also the better beaches of Bonatsa and Kalamitsi are worth the feet slog. Walkers will endeavour to achieve Palaiokastro which, at 370 meters, may be the greatest reason for island!.

Amorgos island

Amorgos island

Overview

Amorgos is really a remarkably unspoiled island in the south-eastern edge of the Cyclades group, where traditional customs continue to be inextricably intertwined right into a landscape as wealthy in beauty as with its history. So states a in your area created tourist guide, and also you know. It's correct! But seriously, Amorgos is indeed a wonderful holiday destination with fantastic possibilities just to walk, visit beautiful towns and fascinating historic sites, fresh paint, photograph and observe local character. Seems like too good to be real, read on.

The Aegiali gulf is our holiday base, more specifically, the little village and also the island's second port of Ormos Aegiali, significantly encircled by magnificent mountain tops carpeted with wild flowers and rare, endemic herbal treatments. Two, little visited, tree-lined, sandy beaches stretch towards the west from the village which hosts a number of fishing caiques. Village amenities aren't sophisticated with a number of tavernas along with a small general store being a lot more than sufficient thinking about ones holiday needs on this kind of island. Ramblers come in seventh paradise. A network of donkey tracks links the 3 stunning towns of Langada, Tholaria and Potamos, famous for his or her traditional architecture. On the way, it's possible to explore deep gorges, historic places of worship, Byzantine monasteries and delightful chapels, all encircled by stunning scenery.

Further search for this mountainous island is important. Walkers will relish the trek across the 16 kms old road from Aegiali towards the brilliant-whitened village of Chora. Alternatively, employ a vehicle and travel across the decent asphalted road. Chora is really a beautiful place with sights to both east and west coast of Amorgos. 40 places of worship, shaded squares and narrow lanes lie underneath the dominant Venetian Castle within this must see location. A vacation to the village's Historical Museum will develop a memorable day.

If Amorgos comes with one claim that they can fame, it's the astonishing, one 1000-year-old Monastery of Hozoviotissa, an incredible union of character and art. This eight floor building referred to as 'the monastery from the one wall' is embosomed within the rock face, 300 metres over the dark blue ocean. This really is all quite remarkable, much like the stunning, holy symbols that may be seen in the monastery.

The island's primary port of Katapola can also be worth mention. Associated with Aegiali by both a 25 kms asphalted road and ferries, the colourful, busy waterfront, lined with coffee shops, bookstores and tavernas will give you a welcome resting spot for a couple of hours prior to making your way to Aegiali by land or ocean.

Things You Can Do

Local agencies present an air-conditioned coach tour from the island including Hozoviotissa Monastery, Chora, tower of Arkesini, and ancient Minoa plus walking tours.

Divers is going to be happy to observe that there's a PADI dive center located in Aegiali

Anafi Island

Overview

If you are seeking genuine, unspoilt Greek island life, Anafi is the one! Sail directly east from Santorini for about 90 minutes and you will hit this pumice blanketed, majestic former berth of the legendary Argonauts. Being one of the least accessible islands of the Cyclades, Anafi does not offer hotel accommodation, excursions by motorcoach or clubs. Instead, one can experience the delights of Agios Nikolaos, the small, cliff-backed port of arrival with its couple of tavernas and cafe and the truly unspoilt hilltop Chora, just a short bus ride (4 km) from Agios Nikolaos. With only a few tavernas, bakery, small shops and post office, your weekly visit to the out of town hypermarket at home will become a distant memory as you stroll the enchanting, narrow alleys of Chora. If you prefer not to travel by bus, a 1.5 km donkey track is still used by enthusiastic walkers.

A coastal walk scene
The string of beaches that run the length of the south coast of Anafi are nothing short of impressive. From the cliff-sheltered sands at Agios Nikolaos, a short walk leads east to Klissidi, 200 metres of gently shelving, fine sand, 2 tavernas and the location of our accommodation. Even more splendid are the dune backed sands of Roukounas, an hours walk east of Klissidi. Monastiri beach and the coves of Katalimatsa are even further east but all within walking distance.

If you are feeling lazy, a small excursion boat operates between Agios Nikolaos & Monastiri from where it is possible to walk to the Monasteries of Zoodogou Pyrgi & Panaghia Kalamiotissa. I hope that Anafi's unspoilt character is retained. In spite of a government building restriction order for the Chora I cannot help wonder how long the island will resist the onslaught of increasing numbers, especially as the island is now feted in a number of guide books. There is of course one simple answer. Go now before the situation changes! (Hurry up!!!)
